JYG-ST JOE JOIN US IN FOLLOWING THE JAMES-YOUNGER BOYS IN MISSOURI THIS FALL

This is the one many of you have been waiting for. This year's James-Younger Conference will be held at the Patee House Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri, September 27-29, and will be a joint meeting of the James-Younger Gang and the Friends of the James Farm. We will also be honoring Betty Barr's 70th Birthday and those of you who have not had the opportunity of meeting a living James relative, will have the honor of doing 1so. We have a block of rooms being held at the Ramada Inn, I-29 and Frederick, St. Joseph between now and 30 days before the conference, so don't wait and get stuck on the outside looking in. Rooms for our special event are $79 a night which includes a free breakfast buffet each morning. Make sure you tell them you are with the James-Younger Gang to get this much lower rate:

The Ramada is just minutes from all of St. Joseph's local historical attractions including Pony Express National Museum, Jesse James Museum and Home, Stetson Hat Factory Outlet Store, Terrible's Casino, the Whiskey Creek Steakhouse/Saloon. The hotel allows pets, but restrictions and fees apply. If you plan to bring your pet please contact the hotel before your arrival to confirm the current pet policy.

8:15 AM Bus Tour: Gary Chilcote has a full day planned with visiting historic sites! To name a few: St. Joseph: Pony Express Museum, Patee House Museum, Jesse James House, Lunch. Cameron, Winston, Gallatin (opera House where trial was held), Round Jail, Building bank was in during 1869 robbery, grave of William Westfall, Liberty Bank Museum, Jesse James Farm, Kearney.
We are also considering an evening cookout at the James Farm.
Saturday, September 29, 2007 PATEE HOUSE, ST. JOE
9:00 AMGuest speakers Johnny D. Boggs is an award-winning author. He won the prestigious Spur award from Western Writes of America in 2002 for his short story, "A Piano at Dead Man's Crossing." His latest book, NORTHFIELD, about the James-Younger Gang's robbery in Northfield, Minnesota, in 1876 is to be published in June 2007 by Five Star Press. Boggs is a frequent contributor to True West, Wild West and Persimmon Hill magazines. Nancy Samuelson is a well known author and historian and is highly respected for her books and research on the James-Younger Gang, the Daltons, and other outlaw bands.
Noon - 1:00 PMSpeaker, Panels TBA Possible Speaker:Paul Kirkman, "Social Outlaws and Notorious Persons of the Missouri Kansas Border Area, 1860-1880." He is offered through the Missouri Humanities Council.
Other speakers to be determined.
4:30 PM FOR THOSE ENTERING WRITERS CONTEST WITH FRIENDS OF JAMES FARM: Awards for best entries in fiction and non-fiction in the 4th Annual Jesse James Writers' Contest. Entries for writers' conference should be 5 pages long, double spaced. The subject matter should have something to do with Jesse James, the family, the legend, or factual accounts. Enter in either fiction or non-fiction categories. There is a $15 entry fee. Submissions should go to Friends of the James Farm, P.O. Box 404, Liberty, Mo. 64069. Deadline is ????. Fiction entries will be judged by Johnny D. Boggs; non-fiction by ??????????.
6:00 - Evening Entertainment Betty Barr, great granddaughter of Jesse James will be celebrating her 70th birthday!
