The James-Younger Gang

Come Ride With Us

Joplin, Here We Come!

It's time again to send in your registration for this year's James-Younger Gang Conference. This year, of course, we are meeting one week later than usual in Joplin, Missouri. The dates of this year's meeting will be October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. This change was necessary to coincide with certain events that will make our conference even better than originally planned. Please note than registration has increased five dollars this year — Single $85, Couple $160. We have not had an increase in years, and rising costs demanded an increase. Please send check or money order made out to James-Younger Gang to:

Jan Goodman
5320 47th Avenue South
Minneapolis, MN 55417

While you are at it, you might call and make a reservation at the
La Quinta Hotel
3320 Range Line Road,
Joplin, Missouri
phone: 417-781-0500
This year we are NOT guaranteeing the rooms with a down payment. However, the rate will be only $62.00 until they run out of rooms, so everyone should not procrastinate until the last minute to make a reservation, even though there is no cut-off date.

The newly remodeled La Quinta has a restaraunt within the hotel. Every room has been totally gutted and re-done throughout the hotel. Your room rate also includes a hot breakfast buffet. All rooms are either King or Double Queens with a refrigerator, microwave and flat-screened TV.

There are a lot of restaraunts within walking distance, which translates to less than half a mile away. For istance — Applebee's, Steak & Shake, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, and lots more. For thoes of you who will be flying in, the hotel has a shuttle service from the Joplin Airport.

We are in the process right now of finding speakers for the conference. The full schedule should be announced in the next issue. So far, Edward R. DeVries, Th.D., has agreed to speak on Baptist Freedom Fighters: The Unrealized Ministries of Jesse James and Cole Younger. According to DeVries: Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. While robbing banks and trains to finance what he hoped would be the second War for Southern Independence, Jesse James was also traveling as a circuit-riding Baptist preacher, pastoring churches and conducting singing schools. Cole Younger completed his seminary education while serving time in the Stillwater Penitentiary and after his release traveled the country as a traveling Baptist evangelist conducting tent-meetings and preaching revivals."
