Wow—what a cool book. In the thrill of having two humans actually step on the Moon, we’ve forgotten all about Michael Collins. He’s the astronaut who orbited the Moon in the Command Module while the other two guys—who can forget who they are—took a giant leap for humankind.
Using illustrations, photos, journal entries, and even checklists, author Bea Uusma Schyffert does a great job conveying Collins’ lonely revolutions. He orbited 14 times while waiting for the other astronauts to return. Is it ever dark on the far side of the Moon!
Schyffert also includes some great brain-clogging bits of information. One astronaut’s mother has a very fitting maiden name. A piece of the first powered aircraft—the Wright Brothers’ Flyer (not Kitty Hawk, as the author writes)—went to the Moon too. So did 15 packs of chewing gum!

I liked the cover of this book because it has a picture of an astronaut. The topic was interesting because it explained a lot about space.
This book was great because it told me a lot about Michael Collins’ mission, suit, and spacecraft. Michael did not like it in his spacesuit. He said that he could not breathe well in it and that it was too tight in the shoulders. He thought that he was going to faint in that suit.
The thing I liked the most about the book was learning how hot and cold it is on the Moon. I also liked the picture of Neil Armstrong in his chef hat and the picture of Buzz Aldrin pole vaulting.
I learned a couple of other things from this book. One is how the astronauts operated the spacecraft, the second is how they accomplished their mission. I had a lot of fun reading this book because it had many cool facts. I wouldn’t change anything.
My score of the book is, uhh…I’ll get back to that. This book was cool because there was a lot of information and detail about the Moon.
Okay, my score of the book is 10 +!! In one word, this book is AWESOME!!!!
