Bats are incredible, aren’t
they? Bats—the latest in the Kids Can Press series on wildlife—covers
the basic information about the world’s only flying mammal.
Author Adrienne Mason’s writing is straightforward
and easy-to-read, perfect for introducing readers to bat facts.
Where do bats live? Closer to you than you
think! In fact, in North America the most common bat is the little
brown bat. What do bats eat? Mmmm, it depends if you’re talking
about a microbat or a megabat. And if you think bats rely only on
echolocation, think again.
The pictures are geared to illustrate all
sorts of bat information—anatomy, for example—but the
little furry mammals look pretty cute too. |

I thought the book looked inviting
to read—the bat on the front looks like it’s flying
right at you. The topic was interesting and I enjoyed reading the
bat facts.
I had fun reading the book and I learned
some things too. I didn’t know that bats aren’t blind.
And, some bats make almost 500 sounds in a second. The book
is full of drawings and I especiallly liked the drawing of the red
bat baby. The drawing of how bats grow and learn is funny.
I wouldn’t change anything about the
book. I can’t think of anything I liked the least—it’s
great the way it is. Out of 10, I give Bats a 10. The word I would
use to describe the book is “interesting”.
