The Amazing International Space Station
3—2—1—Liftoff!
Catch a ride to the International Space Station (ISS) with
YES Mag’s first book, called (what else?),
The Amazing International Space Station. In 48 full-colour
pages, you can imagine yourself travelling on the space
shuttle Endeavor, arriving at the ISS in time for an out-of-this-world
dinner, and getting to know your fellow ISS ’nauts.
(Yes, ’nauts. The ISS hosts cosmonauts, astronauts,
and European “spationauts”—remember, it’s
international!)
While you’re hanging out 354 kilometres above Earth,
there’s plenty of work to do. Science experiments. EVAs
(Extravehicular Activity or spacewalking, for you landlubbers).
And, the unglamorous job of unpacking supplies. You’ll
be so busy, fitting time in for exercise will be tough. But
you should want to spend time on the veloergometer—fancy
word for exercise bike—because you can look down at
Earth through a porthole while pedalling. You’re supposed
to exercise two hours a day, you may as well enjoy it. Besides,
not only should it help you avoid bone loss, but you can exercise
off that pizza delivered by some visiting cosmonauts.
Admit it, you’ve got an appetite for the ISS now! |
